Union County Master Gardeners

The Union County Extension Master Gardenerâ„  Volunteer Association (UCEMGVA) has a primary goal: to provide gardening information to the public in Union County, NC and the surrounding area.

We are a volunteer organization that is part of the NC State Cooperative Extension program and we have been serving our community since 1989. Our mission is to foster partnerships that create sustainable communities through education and implementation. In other words, we like to help and teach our community about good gardening practices, composting, integrated pest management, and homegrown food production, just to name a few. Our home base is the Union County Agricultural and Conference Center in Monroe, NC, where we maintain our Teaching Gardens, Greenhouse, Heritage Trail and the location of our annual Heritage Festival.

CRTPO LogoCharlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization (CRTPO)

The Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization (CRTPO) is the federally designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Charlotte Urbanized Area. Federal legislation requires Urbanized Areas with populations larger than 50,000 to have an MPO, whose primary function is to carry out the transportation planning process among the member jurisdictions within its established planning area boundary. Due to the growth of the Charlotte Urbanized Area, and the subsequent expansion of the MPO planning area boundary, the CRTPO was established in place of the former Mecklenburg-Union MPO.

Centralina LogoCentralina Regional Council (Centralina)

Established in 1968, Centralina Regional Council (Centralina) was created to serve the needs of our nine-county region, which includes Anson, Cabarrus, Gaston, Lincoln, Iredell, Mecklenburg, Rowan, Stanly and Union counties. We are governed by a Board of Delegates, comprised of our member governments, and are one of 16 North Carolina regional councils (Centralina is referred to as Region F) authorized by the General Assembly. Regional Councils are public organizations that address regional issues and opportunities by offering a variety of planning, coordination, program management, advocacy and technical assistance services. These services are provided by our departments and affiliates.

Our regional framework offers a neutral platform where local governments from all nine counties can come together and shape area-wide planning. As a champion for the entire region, Centralina looks at creating holistic solutions that benefit communities of all sizes and strengthen our region’s competitive advantage on the national and international stage. To carry out our mission, we work among the regional, community and individual levels.
